Cement Tiles

Also known in the Netherlands as “Portuguese cement tiles”, these are one of the most special handmade floor and wall products we have in our assortment.

Cement tiles are an ancient product, half-way between handcraft and industry, but nice to the eye. Hydraulic cement tiles are handmade and hand painted piece by piece. These tiles tell the story of our ancestors and how these pieces use to decorate our spaces filling them with colors and patterns. Those mosaics can be found on floors or walls of churches, museums, palaces, and houses. You can also find them in bathrooms, kitchens, balconies also to simulate carpets.

Craftsmanship and hand painted quality mosaic

Cement, pigments, water, time, and patience. For centuries, and still now, these are five ingredients for the production of hand painted Portuguese cement tiles. The production technology and the cement itself have developed and perfected during the time, but always without losing the traditional process. Nowadays our tiles are formulated to be micro-polished piece by piece, in order to maintain a high level of resistance to wear and staining. We value sustainable production and authenticity. That’s why our decorative tiles are produced according to old crafts in Europe. Even though the majority of these mosaics are produced in Asia (that’s odd isn’t it?) we make sure to import azulejos only from the Iberic peninsula so that we can respect the tradition and also keep our CO2 emissions as low as possible.

Unlike other flooring solutions, Portuguese cement tiles are an ecological product that respects the environment. No heating is required during the production of these mosaic, and the materials used are environmentally friendly and sustainable for use on floors and walls. Our decorative tiles consist exclusively of natural and durable materials. Our tiles are made with a paste of marble powder, cement, grit, and color pigments.
