Terracotta
This collection originates from the Impruneta region near Florence, nestled amidst the valleys of the Ema and Greve rivers, renowned for its abundant reserves of a unique clay known as Galestro. It is this distinct clay that imbues Terracotta di Impruneta with its characteristic hue and exceptional technical capabilities. Through a meticulous process involving the use of steel brushes to clean the material of extrusion marks in a technique called "arrotatura," the terracotta acquires its signature brushed surface. The blend of earth and water, having been degassed, extruded, and shaped, undergoes a prolonged air drying phase lasting up to 42 hours to eliminate natural moisture. Subsequent firing at temperatures nearing 1000 degrees over 72 hours not only fortifies the material but also imparts the resilience and unique charm that have established Terracotta di Impruneta as a hallmark of craftsmanship in Tuscany and Italy.
